Music and Performing Arts
At Coburg North Primary School we value the Arts and make sure that every child has the opportunity to explore and create in a variety of ways. Every class has an hour a week for music and all students participate in a comprehensive sequential singing and instrumental program which aims to build a firm foundation for music making. Part songs and rounds are utilised to develop solid vocal skills. Students also use a wide range of instruments including keyboards, guitars, drums, recorders and glockenspiels as well as computer recording technologies.
Students in grades Foundation to 3 can join the Junior Choir and those in grades 4 to 6 can join the Performance choir. Both choirs perform regularly in the local community.
Children in the upper grades can join the 3/4 School Rock Band or the 5/6 School Rock Band. Choirs and Bands are unauditioned, however regular attendance is a pre-requisite for taking part in performances.
The String Ensemble is another opportunity for collaborative music making at the school.
On Tuesdays at lunchtime the Movie Club meets in the Music Room to make short films. These are shown to other students in the school.
School ConcertA major school concert is held every year alternating between upper and lower schools. It gives all students the opportunity to perform and incorporates dance and drama. A smaller Christmas Concert is also held each December.
